NOUN Admission Requirements
Everything you need to know about applying to the National Open University of Nigeria — entry requirements, required documents, and how to apply online.
About NOUN Admissions
The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) admits students on a rolling basis throughout the year. Unlike conventional universities, NOUN uses an Open and Distance Learning (ODL) model, meaning you can study at your own pace from anywhere in Nigeria while working or fulfilling other responsibilities.
NOUN offers programmes at three levels: Undergraduate, Postgraduate (PGD and Master's), and Ph.D. Each level has distinct entry requirements, which are summarised below. All applications are submitted online through the NOUN admissions portal.
NOUN is fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and its degrees are recognised nationwide. Graduates are eligible for NYSC and all federal employment categories.

Admission FAQs

Q: Does NOUN have a specific admission date / session?
A: NOUN admits students twice a year corresponding to its first and second semester intakes. However, the exact dates vary — check the official NOUN website for the current admission window.
Q: Is NOUN's degree accepted for NYSC?
A: Yes. NOUN degrees are fully accredited by the NUC. Graduates are eligible for the mandatory NYSC scheme.
Q: Can I transfer my credits from another university to NOUN?
A: NOUN has a credit transfer policy. You can apply through the Faculty of your intended programme. Bring your transcript and the Faculty Dean will assess which credits are transferable.
Q: What is the minimum age for NOUN admission?
A: The minimum age is 16 years for undergraduate programmes. There is no upper age limit — NOUN welcomes mature students.
